Lunch: cabbage salad. Snacked on a carrot and a clementine while making it. and nibbled on the cabbage and apple.
Dinner: black eyed pea stew. It's good luck to eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day! Dessert: orange.
I was good today and didn't snack and didn't overeat (I think), and it's 9:40 pm and I don't even feel hungry. Good start to the New Year!

Barb,
Your black eyed stew sounds terrific. I am going to try it. I hate juicers. They are hard to clean.
I asked my ortho after the surgery about the condition of my bones and muscles. He said it took two doctors to do the bone repair, one had to hold the muscles away so he could get to the bone. He told me to keep cycling.
He also said my bones were exceptionally strong. He had a hard time drilling through the hip bone to place the pin. I haven't eaten meat for over 25 years but did eat a little dairy until two years ago. I started on McDougall in July 06 and Fuhrman in June 07. The accident was Dec. 12 '07.
The ortho said the fracture was a combo of the impact on the pavement and the twisting of my foot out of the pedal. My foot was stuck in the pedal and still engaged after the fall. I was climbing a very steep grade. It surprised me it was so steep and I shifted into too high a gear and lost my momentum. Over I went and hit just the wrong way on the pavement.
I was riding a higher recumbent. The seat position is very laid back and foot position very high off the ground. It is the bike in my picture on the Fuhrman website.

Ouch. Were you wearing toe clips, and if so, do you still use them? Good to know that your bones were strong. I really don't want to get in any more accidents on my bike. But it's a risky venture, and here I bike in the winter in the snow. I just hope...
