Day 29

Today I got to squeeze in one last, and of course fantastic, mountain bike ride before leaving Moab.  That made us late getting to our destination, so after preparing tomorrow's meals and showering, I'm ready for bed.  We stopped at a Whole Foods in Denver.  wow, I do love my fresh produce.  It's expensive, but it sure is good. I got enough for the next two days which will get us home.  I also got some sugar snap peas and carrots that I ate tonight--I updated yesterday's post with the new numbers.  Here's tomorrow's meals:

I guess I didn't feel like oatmeal.  It's all salads again.  Starting from the bottom:  romaine lettuce, cabbage, balsamic vinegar, broccoli, jicama, red kidney beans, banana, figs, strawberries, nuts and seeds.  and a pound of carrots divided between the three meals.

Total calories 1472, protein 58 g (12%), fat 21 g (12%), carbs 288 g (75%), fiber 98 g.

Barb, I was wondering whether you adjust your salad ingredients after plugging in the numbers to get the nutritional value of the day? I have in the past used FitDay.com to analyze a day's food before supper so I could tweak the nutrition to optimize things.

By the way, I think you're heroic to log all this while you're on vacation!

Barb, when you only eat raw food all day, are you not concerned about nutrient intake? I thought Dr F said we should eat some cooked veggies daily because you can't get enough nutrients otherwise. Or, does it all balance out over a week say?
Just trying to learn ;)

Hi Cindy, at home I start with the basic Fuhrman recommendations: lots of veggies (cooked and raw), 1 cup beans, 1 oz nuts and seeds, 1-2 lbs fruit. That usually comes in around 1000-1200 calories. Then I have play calories, like more beans, baked sweet potatoes, oatmeal, raw carrots and sugar snap peas that I add in. While traveling, I eat more beans because a can of beans is convenient and it also adds more calories to make up for the lack of cooked food. Each can has about 400 calories. So on the road, my play calories are mainly raw carrots, sugar snap peas and extra fruit.

which brings me to otnetty's question. I've seen Dr. F respond to questions about raw food diets on the forums. He isn't against it as long as you don't eat too much fruit. He says most people don't get enough calories from a completely raw food diet and then end up eating too much fruit and nuts and dried fruit and oil. But like most women in their 50s, I don't need too many calories. Even with my high exercise level, I don't need more than about 1600 calories. While traveling I can get that with all the Dr. F. recommendations IF I eat a can of beans. The can of beans is key since it has a whopping 400 calories and also it is cooked. Plus it's only while I'm traveling that I'm eating so much raw. At home I will resume cooking. I look forward to soup and baked sweet potatoes!
