Day 11, 31 to go

I'm in pre-vacation mode, which means, eat what needs to be eaten before vacation.  So I started out with some frozen bananas that for some reason I think should be eaten now and not later (maybe I really just wanted them).  I had those and frozen cherries, chopped up, for brekky.   Wow was that ever good, like ice cream:

I also had some chopped cabbage and carrots because I'm so used to having salad or cooked greens with a meal.  I'm actually not a big fan of fruit only for brekky despite my having had it the last few days in a row.

Today and tomorrow are the final days of sweet corn.  So I bought six and shared 3 with housemate, so we each had 1.5 ears for lunch and will have the rest tomorrow.   Then the corn stand will be gone.  I savored those corns.  It is so good.  I also had a salad made from cabbage, sweet red pepper, summer squash, edamame, peas, and vinegar.  I also had a peach.

Dinner was a yummy baked oriental yam topped with pumpkin pie spice and more salad.  Then...I couldn't resist the bananas and cherries so had another bowl.  Good thing I ran out of bananas.

Total calories 1509, protein 40 g (8%), fat 11 g (6%), carbs 347 g (86%), fiber 67 g.

I wouldn't call this a maximally optimized nutritarian day, but I tend to allow that one day a week.  I didn't eat any nuts or seeds.  tsk tsk.  Notice how the protein is lower since I ate relatively higher proportions of fruit, less beans and no nuts or seeds.  My fat is quite a bit lower too without the seeds.  I'll have some tomorrow.

I don't know that I could have 1/2 ear of corn! I am sad that so many summer foods are winding down. I keep thinking each watermelon will be my last!

but fall foods are coming! pomegranates. squash. I agree, summer is best, but at least it doesn't end completely. and pomegranates are fantastic.

This has been a much better ETL week for me. I made a large batch of ratatouille with veggies from the garden at the beginning of the week and have eaten some of it nearly every day with a big salad. It will be sad to see the summer and the garden end. I also got 6 hours of exercise this week.

I have been very good whole week in terms of eating what I planned. however, I see no change in my weight. I have been loosing a lot of hair. I am not giving up on this plan yet, but I am finding it hard to stay motivated.

Don't give up! It's only a week. Dr. Fuhrman has addressed the issue of hair loss. Are you a member of the forums? let me know. I think you'll never know if this really works if you don't give it at least 4 weeks. and if you give it six weeks and stick to your plan, maybe you'll win a vita-mix!

Hi,
thanks for encouraging me. Actually I am on this 'kind' of plan for few months now (starting May). I am participating in this challenge so that I stay on track. I am making this as our lifestyle, not diet per say.
I am not yet member yet so let me join and see what I can find.
Also, based on Wendy's post (Healthy Girl Kitchen), I am thinking that I should limit my food intake to only 3 times a day.

Thanks again.I will stay on track. It is just that I am little discouraged.

How much nuts and seeds are you eating? how much fruit? beans? those tend to be the highest calorie foods. Beans are great because they make you feel more full. fruit can be high calorie yet still leave you hungry. How much weight are you looking to lose?

beans, about one serving per day (mostly in form of soup, with tons of veggies)
no nuts
seeds about 2 tbs
only fruit I get is apple in my green smoothie ( spinach + chard or kale + water+ water)
after Gena suggested that I need more fat, I started to add 1 spoon of hemp seed to my smoothie.
I am looking to get rid of 10 as part of this challenge.
Only 'bad' thing I do is that when I go to temple, we get 'prasad' which is high in calorie and sugar but I do eat a little (I will say at the most 800 to 1000 cal)
But this happens only once in a week (and if I do not go to temple, then this does not happen)

well, I am a maverick to say this but I think 1-2 Tbsp of seeds and no nuts is okay when you are trying to lose weight. But that is not what Dr. F. recommends, he recommends a full oz which is probably closer to 3 Tbsp. are you saying you eat 800-1000 calories of prasad a week? in one sitting? That seems like too much in my opinion. Maybe I'm too extreme but I'd cut it out completely or just have one bite per week. I'd try to jumpstart the weight loss to give me a mental boost and more motivation to continue.

Also, sometimes even when the weight isn't dropping, the pant size is and it's only a matter of time before it shows up on the scales.

as I was typing about prasad, I realized that I really need to make it just one bite.
I have read most of the books on your site so I am going to go thru them again to get some inspiration (I am not running to get soda or something but motivation is needed to make up for all the calories I am missing. )
I will stay on track...
I will not leave this path ...
One unplanned step can take me to totally different direction and then I will have to work few days to come back to starting point....
Thank you for your input. I will post my update tomorrow.

Great, you came up with a correction. Let's see some progress now! I've heard people talk about another book called "The Four-Day Win" by Martha Beck. I haven't read it so don't know much about it yet.

Hi, I love seeing what you eat everyday. The hardest part of the challenge for me is being creative with my meals. I usually have fruit for breakfast, a large salad for lunch and veg and bean soup for dinner. Sometimes, I just have a big bowl of steamed vegetables instead, but I haven't been very creative with it. The amazing part is that I am having absolutely no cravings. Normally, I crave salt or sugar or salt and sugar, constantly. I am doing well--no cheating so far, and I am encouraged that things are going so well. I haven't been getting as much fresh green juice as I need, because of the time required to prepare it, but I am working on that too. We planted our fall garden this past weekend. We live in Fl, so planted lots of greens, tomatoes, cukes. Our fall garden is everyone elses summer. Thanks for this challenge. It is a nice external motivator.

hi dwatkins, sounds like you are doing great! do you have a condition that requires fresh juice? I don't drink it myself. I don't do smoothies much either. I like to chew and eat more slowly than I do with juice or smoothies. I do like an occasional "ice cream" however, that is, fruit blended up with bananas.
