6 Week Challenge for a Vita-mix--here's the plan!

Okay, I got feedback from readers here and on the Fuhrman forums and the eat-to-live yahoo group and here's the plan I've come up with:

1) Set a goal or goals for yourself.  You might want to pick something you think you can reasonably accomplish, or maybe you want to take on the world.  I recognize that the same goal can be easy for one person and hard for another.  We're all at different levels with different challenges.

2) Send me your name and a screen name (which could be your real name if you want), and your goal(s).   I will post the screen names of everyone participating, along with your goals.   Send this info to my email address:  bwhitney@chi-squared.org

3)  For accountability, try to post a comment here on the blog once a week, stating your progress.  I won't be strict about this, it's just a goal.  You can post every day if you like.

4)  At the end of the challenge, if you want to win the vita-mix, send me via email a short essay (200 words max) describing how you did in the challenge (remind us of what your goals were), and why you want the vita-mix.  I will probably have a hard time deciding between lots of entries and will have to do a lottery because I'm sure you will all have compelling stories!

5) I would like to post the winning essay and maybe excerpts of others.   I will ask you for permission before posting.  I will give runner's up the option to not let me post excerpts of your essay but I will require the winner to let me post their essay.  :)

6)  You can start anytime between now and Sept. 1.  I know several people on the Fuhrman forums started today!  I'm starting tomorrow.

7)  I will try to post often during the challenge. You can post your progress as a comment to any of my posts--probably the most recent will be easiest.   I am going on vacation for 2.5 weeks during the challenge so I might miss some days.

8) Please post you progress here rather than or in addition to other forums you are members of (Dr. Fuhrman's member center, or the Eat-2-Live yahoo group).

9)  The winner will have to pay shipping costs for the vita-mix.  I hope that is okay.

Let's have some fun!

Goals sent. Exercise started. Getting ready to download logs once I find them on your site. And THANK YOU for providing me with the added accountability I needed to get going in a direction that is HEALTHY for me!

God bless,

Sorry to bother you on this, but where are the sample food logs? I've searched but I just can't seem to find them. Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure that I need to participate. I want to win the VitaMix and this is just the kinda kick in the pants that is good for me. If I won, I would donate my current VitaMix to an organization that I belong to that could use it to prepare healthy food for large events. That way, many people could share in the love. It would be awesome. I can do it for them.

I will start on September 1. My goal is to rekindle the excitement, motivation and dedication that I had my first six time on the six week plan, before I began to rationalize eating when I wasn't feeling hunger and eating to alleviate anxiety. I also want to make progress on learning to let go of the impulse to eat large quantities of food, and find peace with a mindset of taking no more than I truly need.

Hi Jen,

My "food logs" were actual descriptions of what I ate on a daily basis, to show an example of how one person eats healthy (me). I did this for about 4 years, and then got a big lazy and don't do it as much anymore. If you go to my posts labeled "food logs" you can go back in time and see what I ate. The labels are at right in a section called "labels". or here is the direct link:

If this doesn't make sense, let me know!

Healthy Girl, that sounds great. It's nice to think about all the great uses this vita-mix might have. makes me wish there were more to go around. :)

Michelle, I'm so glad you are joining. I love hearing your perspective about things. I hope we can be successful together.

Day 2 for me
I did okay overall but need to do better today. Will read some ETL today. ReeRee

Starting today using VeggieTeach as my screen name. Goals sent. I'm excited. I've hit a wall after my initial 18 lb. ETL loss and am dying for a Vitamix.

Barb - This is FANTASTIC. Just the support and incentive I need to get back on the ETL track. I was doing great in July, but things fell apart when my daughter was born on Aug 4. Hospital food is (strangely) not that healthy, and then there were houseguests and neighbors caring for us by bringing us food...all very kind intentions, but not the food I would prepare for myself. Now I want to get back to ETL for good -- for me, my four-year-old daughter, and for the new little one who eats what I eat (via breastfeeding). Thank you for doing this! - Patricia

Set my goal today - exercise 4 times a week minimum, lose 10 pounds, ETL 6 week plan at about 90% as I know I will have a few meals off plan due to prior commitments. Looking forward to getting recharged.

Hi, I am excited to find your challenge, just when I needed it! I am new to this style of eating and am having trouble knowing what to eat and finding ways to make it work for me. Unfortunately, this means that I have had a few days where I went "off diet". I was searching for help on this when I found your blog through Dr. Fuhrman. I shall have fun looking through all the information you have here.

Purchasing a vitamix is out of the question for me, but I have access to a juicer and a regular blender. I would love to have a vitamix, so that will give me a little extra push. Thanks for supporting this challenge!

Starting today. Goal: follow Eat To Live, 6-Week Plan. I like what Michelle is doing...that's a great thing to consider. Thanks, Barb. :O)

I got through day one of the challenge and figure there is no reason I can't do this for six weeks or better yet for the rest of my life.

charflower, you said it!

Everything is going well so far with the 6 week challenge for my sister and I. I found that I need to slowly decrease the coffee intake as I had a massive caffeine withdrawal headache that first day. My sister has been making recipes from the Eat to Live book and has been sharing them with me so that is a definite bonus! One of my goals was to share the Eat to Live information with others. I have given a copy of the Eat to Live book to my other sister but she has not started to read it to date. I have been sticking to the plan to the best of my ability. Trying to get more exercise in. Will keep plugging away.

I am starting day #4 with positive thoughts. Soon I'll go through some ETL recipes and decide what will be on the menu for today. The past few days I have been eating alot of vegetable soup, beans and rice, salads and fruit. I hope everyone is doing well.

One week on the challenge and started off strong but weakened during the week. I'm feeling good today and trying to stay on track. Good luck to all.
